James F. Regan
Mr. Regan is a shareholder in our San Francisco office. Mr. Regan’s practice focuses on litigation of business disputes, environmental issues, catastrophic personal injury, public entity, elder law, and wrongful death cases. He is admitted to practice in California, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Northern and Central Districts of California.
Mr. Regan handles cases through all phases of litigation. He has appeared before the California Court of Appeal multiple times. In 2013, he successfully argued in a complex case involving elder law. After a seven-figure policy limits demand, the Court of Appeal unanimously upheld the trial court’s ruling in his client’s favor. Last year he again appeared before the Court of Appeal in a malicious prosecution action. The Court unanimously upheld the trial court’s ruling in his client’s favor. In addition, Mr. Regan has been trial counsel in cases throughout California. In 2013, he first-chaired two trials in San Francisco County. Each resolved for 10% of their initial demands, one after pretrial motions, and the other after opening statements. He also secured a dismissal for his client, a local public entity, despite an initial $7.5 million demand.
Mr. Regan attended St. Ignatius College Preparatory before graduating from the University of San Francisco, with a B.S. in Business Administration. He attended Western State University College of Law, where he was Vice President of the Student Bar Association and graduated with a certificate in Business Law. While in law school, Mr. Regan externed for then-Assistant Presiding Judge David L. Ballati of the San Francisco Superior Court. After graduation, he worked as the Research Attorney to the Presiding Judge of the San Francisco Superior Court under Hon. David L. Ballati and Hon. James J. McBride.
Mr. Regan and his wife live in San Francisco. He enjoys golf and baseball.
